T2X: Shadows of the Metal Age is a fan made, free to download expansion for the game Thief 2: The Metal Age.

But even though it's closely tied to the Thief 2 universe, it is a full, stand alone game (albeit requiring a pre-installed Thief 2), that features a whole new story and also a new, female protagonist.

T2X was released to the public on May 15th. 2005.
IT WAS UPDATED TO VERSION 1.1 on February 18th. 2007

T2X was in development for five years, when finished reached 655MB in it's compressed form, and as such is one of very few fan made game expansions/FMs to have had such a lengthy and elaborate development. Every aspect was taken into consideration during this time to make it as professional looking as possible, from the ingame cutscenes, the music- voice- and ambient sounds, remodelling, level making and texturing, to the story writing and gameplay mechanics.

However - because the Dark engine that Thief 2 utilizes is over ten years old, the graphics don't include technology common in today's games, like normal mapping and dynamic shadows. But - perhaps the most important part of a gaming experience; the atmosphere is great, and has been retained from the first two Thief games.

Many of the textures that are used in T2X, are higher resolution than what was used in Thief 2 though, but the engine has severe limitations compared to newer game engines. So by today's standards, they're not "high res", but compared to the original Thief 2 textures, some of them are.

I have put up this page because I think this project deserves all the advertising it can get, and because I myself have played a very small part in it's development.

This is in no way my project though. I was only "hired" in the last few weeks of development to make a few textures for it.

Since this is not my own project, I won't have any direct download links here, but I will link to the pages where it can be downloaded, and where you can read some important technical notes about it before you start.

Before you go to download T2X and install it, there are a couple of things you should know:

Since Thief 2, the game T2X builds on, was released in 2000, there are some technical problems you may encounter, at least if you plan on playing it on a new system with Windows XP. So before you play T2X, you should go through the TECHNICAL FAQ, and ensure your system and Thief 2 install is ready to play.
